Dalgona Coffee = Not for Me

During the height of the pandemic, the dalgona coffee craze had taken over. We decided to give it a shot and see how we liked it. I mean during that time we were locked down in the house, so what did we have better to do? We ended up using this 100% Colombian instant coffee from Trader Joe’s (paid link).

The drink looked pretty cool, but it was way too sweet for me. I’m the girl that orders coffee black or has espresso with a dash of steamed soy. The dalgona coffee drink reminded me of a dessert more than my usual morning pick-me-up. It was so rich and overpowering I just cannot imagine drinking a cup of this.

We’re glad we tried something new, but it’s not something I would try again. The best part to come out of the experience was discovering Trader Joe’s 100% Colombian instant coffee (paid link). I buy it regularly and use it to make iced coffee for the week in a carafe. It tastes great, is super quick to make, and is pretty strong which I prefer. We bought our carafe from HomeGoods, but this is a cute set from Amazon (paid link) that is similar.

If you want to try out dalgona coffee for yourself, below is a quick recipe.

Mix 2 tablespoons each of sugar, instant coffee, and cold water.
Whisk or use a hand mixer until the mixture thickens & gets fluffy.
Fill a glass with ice and milk & pour the mixture on top

Tried & Fail – Caudalie Lip Conditioner

Caudalie Lip Conditioner was tried & fail for me.
Saw this on Sephora and decided to give it a try.
It went on pretty thin and slick, which I usually prefer. It didn’t last very long at all and I found it to be drying for me. I had a lot of peeling and flakiness from it, so I just stopped using it overall. There’s so many other products out there, so I’m not sure I would give this another try, but I can’t say it wouldn’t work out for others.

Tried & Fail – Laneige Lip Treatment Balm

I’ve been the biggest Laneige fan since before they got really popular in the US, so whenever they drop new products I am always ready to try them, but the Lip Treatment Balm just wasn’t for me.

It goes on nicely, but I didn’t find it lasting, or too moisturizing especially compared to the Lip Sleeping Mask. The consistency reminds me more of a lip gloss, and I prefer more of a balm.

The applicator fitting into the lid was super convenient, but I still used this as an at-home lip balm because I found it a little too messy to carry in my purse.

I wouldn’t buy this product again and will continue to stick with the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, which I highly recommend.

What are your thoughts on this lip treatment?

Tried & Fail – La Mer The Lip Balm

La Mer products are typically on the pricier side, so it’s only natural to expect a product with quality. I was on the hunt for a new balm and figured I would give this one a shot based on glowing reviews I read through.

The balm was $75 and I ended up buying it from Nordstrom.
The balm goes on pretty nice. It’s a bit on the thinner side, so a little goes a long way. There’s a creamy, almost satiny feel to the balm. It has a nice & light minty scent, which I liked.

The downside – I found myself having to reapply very often – more often than with other products. I also felt like this product was semi-drying, but definitely caused flakiness. Lastly, this is best as an at-home balm for me, since I am opposed to carrying a balm in my purse that requires finger application.

This product just isn’t for me. I’m glad I gave it a go, but I definitely would not purchase this again.

Tried & Fail – Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask

Trying this lip mask was such a rollercoaster ride for me.
The first week or so of using the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask was heavenly. The lip mask went on like a thick ointment before I went to bed and I would wake up with lips soft and moisturized. I received a free deluxe lipstick sample in an amazing color and decided to give that a try too.
My experience soon turned into a total nightmare.

Fast forward to around a week later of consistently using these products, and I woke up with super tiny bumps all around my mouth. You couldn’t really see them, but if I touched my upper lip or any skin around my mouth, I could feel them. I didn’t think much of it at first, but progressively, they started to look like tiny little bumps filled with water and were irritating. Naturally, for those that know me, I freaked the f*ck out!

Turns out I had an allergic reaction to an ingredient in their products. After searching more online, it looks like there are numerous girls that have had adverse reactions to Bite Beauty products, just like me. After visiting my dermatologist, I received a steroid+antiobiotic cream that I had to apply a few times a day. It took around 3-4 days before everything cleared.

I don’t know exactly what caused the reaction, but I avoid their products entirely now. It’s such as shame, because I was truly enjoying them until the horror show happened. Honestly, I would recommend their products, because allergic reaction aside, they were all super nice, but make sure you do your research first to avoid having the same thing happen to you.
